Description

Puerto Maldonado is a city in southeastern Peru in the Amazon rainforest 55 kilometres (34 mi) west of the Bolivian border; located at the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, the latter of which joins the Madeira River as a tributary of the Amazon. It is the capital of the Madre de Dios Region.
Nearby are the Manú National Park, Tambopata National Reserve, and Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, which have been established to protect natural resources. These are some of the most pristine primary rain forests in the world. They include several oxbow lakes and clay licks, where hundreds of birds, including macaws, feed on clay

Itinerary

First day 1

  • Puerto maldonado Pick up from the land terminal, airport and / or from the point you choose and transfer to Amazonian Ecoaventuras.
  • Creole lunch, vegetarian options and / or diets, in advance.
    Botanic walk, along the tracks of Amazonian Ecoaventuras, explaining about the flora and medicinal plants used in the Amazon.
  • Night Walk, once the sun goes down, activity in the Amazon changes enormously with the sounds of insects, nocturnal birds like the towaio, owls, owls, the only kind of monkey in the world as the musmuqui or night monkey begin their activity, with great luck we will have the opportunity to appreciate them in their natural habitat.
  • Dinner.
  • Accommodation in bungalows.

Second day 2

  • Very early, after having breakfast, we will leave for the main port in Puerto Maldonado to take our motorized boat on the Madre de Dios River downstream. We will have a very entertaining day visiting the famous  Lake Sandoval which is inside the Tambopata Reserve. A family of giant otters inhabit this lake, as well as the only ruminating bird in the world known as Hoatzin locally known as Shansho, Anhinga or duck snake, some species of monkeys such as howler, capuchin, squirrel monkey, tamarin. We will take our lunch, an Amazonian food, which we will taste on the banks of the majestic Lake, after a previous rest, we will be able to walk in rowboats, you will have the opportunity to row in this endless and mysterious Spring in the middle of the jungle thicket.
  • Return to Amazonian Ecoaventuras for dinner.
  • Accommodation in bungalows.

Third day 3

  •  A wake-up call at 4.15 am will let you know that we are going to visit the incredible Collpa of the parrots, which approx. lasts 2 hours. It is the perfect place for parrot lovers, hundreds of them will make their arrival in the early hours of the morning to congregate and try to eat the clay which is used by minerals to detoxify some fruit or immature seed as well as to socialize and find your partner, it is possible to see up to 7 species of Psitacidas (family of parrots and macaws) in this magical activity. we returned to Ecoaventuras to have our delicious breakfast.
  •  Circuit of adventures, if you like the challenges, this circuit is very challenging, the difficulties go from level 1 to level 4 of difficulty, be strong and you will see that in the end when you overcome the 4 obstacles you will feel very accomplished and you will want to have many more challenges
  • Lunch.
  • Recreational fishing on the Madre de Dios River, in summer time or dry season, fishing becomes the main activity of the Amazonian population, you can see many people fishing along the river, both artisanally and also with meshes. Long the river, catfish are predominant in this area. (Option to visit a local family).
  • Dinner 7.30, After Dinner, Bonfires in Amazonian Eco-Tours, a good time to talk and tell some anecdotes and legends about our Amazon.
  • Accommodation in bungalows.

Fourth day 4

  • Breakfast.
  • Rural Cycling, road and circuit of the cachuela is a good place to appreciate the Amazonian crops such as pineapples, bananas, guaca, pacae, graviola, mamey, huito, cocos, copoazu, zapote, tree bread, pijuayo in a ride a bicycle, will travel all the rivera Madre de Dios River, many times you can see migrant birds in their path.
  • Lunch.
  • Kayak on the Madre de Dios river and in the hammock is a good place to do some good arm exercises like doing kayak level 1, even if you never did this sport anywhere, a previous instruction will encourage you to overcome your fears and adventure in our heavenly Rio Madre de Dios.
  • Dinner 7.30.

Fifth day 5

  • Zip Line – Tiroleza, 180 meters of glide will make you feel like raptors descending in search of their prey, if you are looking to eliminate stress, this is the adventure you need.
  • Canopy – Hanging bridge, 101 meters of walk at the height of the highest trees of the Amazon, it is possible to observe many species of living beings like frogs, birds of canopy like the toucan, lizards like the geckos, which walking on the base of the trees would never have the opportunity to see them or to hear them without this type of constructions, you will have a different experience.
  • Breakfast.
  • Return to Puerto Maldonado. After our breakfast, we will take our transportation back and from there we will continue to the airport, in time to take our flight back to Lima or Cusco.
